Event Oriented Query Expansion for News Event Queries
نویسندگان
چکیده
Query expansion techniques have been commonly used by participants in Temporal Summarization tack. However, many previous attempts focused on expanding queries based on their event types, which only covers partially of the information need represented by queries. The reason is that the queries in the TS track are about news events, and for an event query, the event related entities, which are the entities mentioned in the queries, are essential when defining the event. Given the query ”Vauxhall helicopter crash”, without ”Vauxhall” or ”helicopter”, the event cannot be specifically defined. Therefore, we argue that both event type and event related entities should be considered when expanding a query, and a model based query expansion framework is proposed which incorporates these two types of information. The framework is then employed by using external resources, such as external corpora and Wikipedia pages to build expansion models.

Event-Centered Information Retrieval Using Kernels on Event Graphs
Traditional information retrieval models assume keyword-based queries and use unstructured document representations. There is an abundance of event-centered texts (e.g., breaking news) and event-oriented information needs that often involve structure that cannot be expressed using keywords. We present a novel retrieval model that uses a structured event-based representation. We structure querie...

As moving to big data world where data is increasing in unstructured way with high velocity, there is a need of data-store to store this bundle amount of data. Traditionally, relational databases are used which are now not compatible to handle this large amount of data, so it is needed to move on to non-relational data-stores. In the current study, we have proposed an extension of the Mongo...
متن کاملZED: Explaining Temporal Variations in Query Volume
We hypothesize that the variance in volume of high-velocity queries over time can be explained by observing that these queries are formulated in response to events in the world that users are interested in. Based on it, this paper describes a system, ZED, which automatically finds explanations for high velocity queries, by extracting descriptions of relevant and temporally-proximate events from...
متن کاملModeling the Influence of Popular Trending Events on User Search Behavior
Understanding how users’ search behavior is influenced by real world events is important both for social science research and for designing better search engines for users. In this paper, we study how to model the influence of events on user queries by framing it as a novel data mining problem. Specifically, given a text description of an event, we mine the search log data to identify queries t...
